A cavity is a hole in a tooth caused by decay. Very early decay, before a hole forms, can sometimes be stopped with fluoride and better cleaning. Once a hole forms, it does not heal on its own and usually gets bigger. Treated early, it needs only a small filling. Left too long, it can reach the nerve and need a root canal instead. Early decay often causes no symptoms, which is why checkups matter.
At Dantiki Dental Clinic in Sector 93, Gurgaon, Dr. Arti Kumari uses tooth-coloured composite fillings, shade-matched to your teeth and hardened with a curing light. Laser-assisted options are available where they suit the tooth. She checks the cavity first, often with a digital X-ray, and explains your options before starting.
Patients come for fillings from Sectors 85 to 95, Hayatpur and the rest of New Gurgaon, and from the Dwarka Expressway sectors. The clinic is open every day, including Sunday mornings.

Signs you may need a filling
Sensitivity to sweets or cold
A quick, sharp twinge when you eat something sweet or have a cold drink.
Food getting stuck
Food catching in the same gap again and again can mean a cavity on the side of a tooth.
A dark spot or hole
A brown or black mark, or a small hole you can feel with your tongue.
A rough or sharp edge
A chipped corner or rough edge that catches your tongue or tears dental floss.
Broken or lost filling
An old filling that has cracked or fallen out, or has dark decay showing around its edges.

How a filling is done at Dantiki
Examine
The tooth is checked, with a digital X-ray if needed to see how deep the cavity goes and whether there is decay between teeth.
Numb
Local anaesthesia is used when needed so you stay comfortable. Very shallow cavities sometimes don't need it.
Clean
The decayed part is removed and the tooth is cleaned. A laser-assisted option may be used where it suits the tooth.
Fill
Tooth-coloured composite is placed in thin layers, and each layer is hardened with a curing light.
Polish
Your bite is checked, and the filling is shaped and polished so it feels smooth against your tongue.
How long does it take?
Most fillings are done in a single visit. If you have several cavities, they may be spread over two or more visits. A very deep cavity may first get a temporary filling or a protective layer, so the dentist can see how the nerve settles before placing the final filling.
Tooth filling cost in Gurgaon: what affects it
The cost depends on how many teeth need treatment, how big each cavity is and which option suits the tooth. After the examination, and an X-ray if needed, you get a clear estimate before treatment starts.
- Number of teeth to be filled
- Size and depth of each cavity
- Number of tooth surfaces involved
- Whether a laser-assisted option is used
- Need for a temporary or protective layer first
After your filling
- Wait until the numbness wears off before eating, so you do not bite your cheek, lip or tongue. Watch children closely until the feeling comes back.
- Mild sensitivity to cold, or slight tenderness when you bite, is common. It usually settles within a week or two.
- If your bite feels high or uneven, call us for a quick adjustment.
- Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth.
- Cut down on sweets and sticky snacks between meals, especially for children.
- Call us if pain gets worse, has not settled after two weeks, throbs or wakes you at night, or if your filling feels broken.

Fillings: questions patients ask
Does getting a tooth filling hurt?
Most fillings are comfortable. When needed, the tooth is numbed with local anaesthesia, so you feel some pressure and vibration rather than pain. Very shallow cavities sometimes need no injection at all. If you feel anything during treatment, tell Dr. Arti and more anaesthesia can be given.
What is a laser filling?
In suitable cases, a dental laser can be used for part of the filling treatment. It does not suit every tooth, and many cavities are still treated with standard instruments. Either way, the tooth is then filled with tooth-coloured material. Dr. Arti Kumari will tell you at the check-up whether a laser-assisted option suits your tooth.
How long does a composite filling last?
It depends on the size of the filling, where it sits in the mouth and your habits. Small fillings usually last longer than large ones on back teeth that take heavy chewing. Grinding, biting hard objects and new decay at the edges can shorten its life. Regular check-ups catch problems early.
My old filling broke. Is it urgent?
Get it checked within a few days. A broken filling leaves the tooth open to food and bacteria, and decay can spread underneath. If there is sharp pain or swelling, call us sooner. Until then, chew on the other side and keep the area clean.
Do children's milk teeth need fillings?
Often, yes. Milk teeth hold space for the adult teeth and help children chew and speak. A cavity in a milk tooth can spread quickly and cause pain or infection. Regular check-ups help find small cavities early, when they can be filled in a short visit.
Should I replace my old silver fillings?
Not if they are in good condition. If an old silver (amalgam) filling is intact and there is no decay under it, removing it is not usually advised, because it means drilling away some healthy tooth. A filling that is cracked, leaking or has decay around it does need replacing, usually with a tooth-coloured filling. Dr. Arti will check each filling and tell you if any needs attention.
